UCA’s Kent and Medway Collaborative Outreach Programme (KaMCOP) team hosted two summer schools in July. The Animation and Creative Summer Schools, led by experienced creative practitioners and industry professionals, were attended by 45 students from target schools and colleges.
Both summer schools gave young people in the region the opportunity to experience living and learning like a university student, whilst gaining the confidence and capacity to express their ideas, develop their creative practice and expand their portfolio.
96% of students said that the summer schools had influenced their thoughts about studying at university.
When asked what they learnt, students said:
- “About my options for the future.”
- “The opportunities available after school e.g. Courses.”
- “Doing this has opened my mind about more things I could do as a degree.”
- “I loved it. I thought it was fun, different, entertaining and I’m excited to potentially come here in the future.”
Each summer school culminated in a celebratory exhibition, where the young people showcased their work to friends and family.
